This is a screen shot of what I normally use in Windows movie maker to save videos for youtube. It creates a little larger file to upload but I’d rather have the higher quality.

Watch Youtube with Stereo Sound

I came across a little trick which lets you hear youtube videos is stereo. All you do is add &fmt=18 to the end of the url for the video.

So instead of this

The url will look like this

I’m not sure if this works for all videos or just newer ones that have been uploaded since Youtube changed their encoding methods.

Creating high quality video on YouTube

“High quality” and Youtube are an oxymoron. No matter how great your video looks on your computer Youtube will compress the snot out of it and convert your sound to mono.

YouTube accepts most common video formats including WMV, MPEG, MOV and AVI.

I created a test clip and then encoded in different formats and rates.

You can see the clips here
http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=03E42D05F3584B4A

Everything looks pretty good at 640×480 or higher. I think the AVI clips looks the best but it was almost a 200meg file for a 53 second video. Depending on your software I would likely choose the 3Mbs WMV or MOV format. Also if you create a file in H.264 format I’m pretty sure Youtube will still re-encode it anyways.

Uploading WMV To YouTube

It’s not clearly documented on the YouTube site but you can upload WMV files to Youtube.

Here is a quote from the Youtube website:

What video file formats can I upload?
YouTube accepts video files from most digital cameras and camcorders, and cell phones in the .AVI, .MOV, and .MPG file formats.

I found that the best setting in Windows Movie maker to create WMV files for Youtube is 320X240 at 512 Kbps.

Time Magazine Names YouTube Best Invention for 2006

Time Magazine Names YouTube Best Invention for 2006.

I don’t think YouTube is an “invention” and it certainly wasn’t the first to market to upload and share videos.

I agree with camcorderinfo that this doesn’t really qualify as an invention.

You will need to download Super to encode the downloaded video.

If you right click anywhere is Super you can choose the ouput destination of the file.

Video Tutorial For Windows Movie Maker

In all my research for YouTube in the previous post I decided to create a tutorial for Windows movie maker with all my new found knowledge. I figured since this is a video site I should attempt to create a video tutorial. Here is my first one

Like most people I hate the sound of my recorded voice. Perhaps next time I can hire Don LaFontaine.

I used camtasia to capture the screen and then I edited in Vegas Studio. Creating keyframes to zoom in on the screen was a bit of a hassle.

I would really like to hear some feedback so leave a comment to let me know what you think.
